[New Delhi, 02 August 2010]

Security of the nation is the key for growing economy

Conscious and responsible society along with technology would play a major role in countering the internal security threats in India opined Mr Ashok Lavasa, Joint Secretary (Police II), Ministry of Home Affairs. He further said that in order to raise the economic growth of these sections of our country, we must provide peace and mental security to investors.

He was speaking at ‘Safe City – Securing your world’, an international conference on internal security organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

Mr Prasun Mukherjee, Director General, Bureau of Police Research and Development said that unlike other security endeavors, the concept of Safe City is designed for offering a proactive approach to enable a safer environment in the minds to the people and authorities. He added that an integrated approach need to be adopted for the implementation of the concept of Safe City in India.

Mr. Gurpal Singh, Deputy Director General, CII outlined India has been a victim of low intensity conflict for at least the last four decades. India needs to evolve comprehensive security machinery with clearly laid down concepts, carefully defined leadership roles and a workable co-ordination drill.

He added that CII has been working closely with the Ministry of Home affairs for strengthening the technological capabilities and professionalism within the various security forces in India. CII partnered with the Bureau of Police Research and Development in August 2003 to organize a seminar cum exhibition on ‘Industry Role in Police Modernisation’. Yet again, during the year 2006, CII partnered with the BPR&D to organize and exhibition and conference on ‘Technological Solutions for CPOs/Police forces’.
